How to Spend One Day in Corfu Old Town – Hidden Beaches, Planespotting & the Best Photo Spots

This Corfu Old Town one day itinerary includes hidden beaches, sunset spots, cafés, photo locations, and one of the most unusual planespotting spots in Europe — all reachable without a car.

Most people only pass through Corfu Town before exploring the island, but I was surprised by how many hidden spots were packed into this area.

I also pinned every beach, café, photo spot, and planespotting location into one easy Google Map at the end of this guide.

Morning in Corfu Old Town

We stayed directly inside Corfu Old Town, which I highly recommend if you want to experience the city properly before the crowds arrive.

Early mornings in Corfu Town feel completely different compared to the busy afternoon atmosphere. The streets are quiet, the light is soft, and you can actually hear locals opening cafés and bakeries for the day.

We walked outside just after sunrise and wandered through the narrow streets without any real plan. Honestly, Corfu Old Town is one of those places where getting lost is part of the experience.

Every corner looks photogenic. Pastel Venetian buildings, tiny balconies covered in flowers, laundry hanging between streets, old shutters, hidden cafés — it genuinely feels like a Pinterest board in real life.

Since 2007, Corfu Old Town has officially been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and once you walk around for even ten minutes, it’s easy to understand why.

Hidden Photo Spot in Corfu Old Town

One of my favorite hidden spots in Corfu Old Town was a tiny street covered with blooming flowers overhead.

It’s the kind of place you’d probably walk past without noticing, but it was one of the prettiest photo spots we found in Corfu Town.

The cobblestone street, soft colors, and peaceful atmosphere made it feel very authentic compared to some of the more crowded tourist areas.

Pro tip:

Go early in the morning if you want photos without people. The light is much softer, the streets are emptier, and the whole Old Town feels calmer before the crowds arrive.

I pinned this exact location on the map at the end of this guide.

Breakfast & Coffee at the Liston Promenade

After exploring for a while, we stopped at a small local café for a coffee.

One thing I loved in Corfu was how slow and relaxed coffee culture feels. Nobody rushes. People sit outside for hours drinking coffee, talking, and enjoying the atmosphere.

We later walked over to the famous Liston Promenade, one of the most iconic places in Corfu Town.

The Liston was built during French rule and is lined with elegant arcades and cafés. It’s probably one of the best places in Corfu Town for people-watching.

Espresso, cicadas, and quiet Corfu mornings

We ordered espressos and sat outside for a while watching the city slowly wake up around us, listening to the sound of cicadas in the trees while the morning heat slowly started building.

If you visit Corfu Town, definitely don’t skip this area even if it seems touristy — the atmosphere is genuinely worth it.

Yes, Corfu Old Town Has Hidden Beaches — And They’re Actually Beautiful

Before visiting Corfu, I had absolutely no idea that Corfu Old Town actually had beaches.

I assumed we’d need to leave town completely for swimming, but surprisingly, some of the clearest water we saw during the trip was right next to the Old Town.

And honestly, I feel like most tourists still don’t know about these spots.

Faliraki Beach Corfu Town

Faliraki Beach is one of the most underrated spots in Corfu Town.

It’s a small beach area located directly below the Old Fortress, with beautiful views over the sea and fortress walls. The water here is crystal clear, and because it’s right next to the Old Town, it’s perfect if you want a quick swim without spending the entire day at a beach club.

It also became one of my favorite photo spots in Corfu because of the fortress backdrop.

The contrast between the historic buildings and the bright blue water looks unreal in photos.

Most tourists don’t realize Corfu Old Town has beaches like this

Imabari Beach – Corfu Town’s Hidden Beach Club Vibe

Right next to Faliraki is Imabari Beach, which ended up having a completely different atmosphere.

When we arrived, a DJ was playing chilled music while people relaxed on sunbeds and swam in the sea. It felt more like a hidden beach club than a city beach.

If you don’t want to pay for a sunbed, you can simply leave your towel on the wooden or concrete deck areas.

One important thing to know is that the water gets deep very quickly here, so if you’re not a confident swimmer, stay close to the edge.

Watching the Old Fortress from the water made this spot feel completely different from any other beach in Corfu.

Where to Eat Cheap Gyros in Corfu Town

After spending a few hours at the beach, we were starving, so we stopped for gyros before heading back into town — Corfu Town has some seriously good streetfood spots.

One thing we noticed quickly in Corfu was how affordable the gyros places still are compared to many other Greek islands. Fresh warm pita, juicy grilled meat, homemade tzatziki, crispy fries, and huge portions for a surprisingly low price.

One thing Corfu does really well: cheap and ridiculously good gyros

If you’re visiting Corfu Town on a budget, definitely don’t skip the local street food spots. Some of our favorite meals during the trip ended up being simple gyros wraps eaten while walking through the Old Town

Planespotting in Kanoni (One of the Most Unusual Free Things to Do in Corfu)

Out of everything we did in Corfu, this was probably the most unexpected highlight.

I had seen videos of Corfu planespotting all over TikTok before the trip, but seeing it in real life was completely different.

From Corfu Town, we took the local 2A bus to Kanoni, which took around 30 minutes.

After getting off at Kanoni E stop, we followed the path towards the famous airport pier — and honestly, the moment the first plane flew overhead was insane.

The planes land just meters above your head before touching down at Corfu Airport.

Watching planes land just meters above your head in Corfu feels unreal

You can literally hear the rumble getting louder before suddenly seeing the aircraft appear directly above the sea.

It sounds dramatic online, but in real life it’s even crazier.

At the same time, the whole setting is actually really beautiful — with the bright blue Ionian Sea, the famous white Vlacherna Monastery sitting on the water, Mouse Island in the distance, and huge planes flying just overhead every few minutes.

It’s easily one of the most unusual free things to do in Corfu.

Travel tip:

Check the Corfu Airport arrivals schedule online before going. Some periods are much busier than others, and timing it properly makes a huge difference.

We stayed there for hours taking photos and videos because every landing somehow felt exciting again.

Afternoon & Sunset in Corfu Old Town

After returning from Kanoni, we showered quickly and headed back into the Old Town with no real plan.

Honestly, Corfu Town is best explored like this.

Some of the prettiest streets and corners we found were completely random. Tiny local shops, colorful doors, hidden staircases, balconies overflowing with flowers — the Old Town somehow looks good from every angle. If you’re wondering what to wear in Corfu for beach clubs, sunset dinners, and Old Town walks, I shared all my favorite outfit ideas.

By sunset, the atmosphere completely changes.

The quiet morning streets turn lively, restaurants fill up, live music starts playing in small squares, and the entire city feels warm and energetic without becoming overwhelming.

Night Views at Faliraki Square

To end the day, we walked down to Faliraki Square, where stone steps lead directly into the sea.

At night, the Old Fortress lights up beautifully, and across the water you can even see the outline of Albania in the distance.

Warm lights, quiet water, and the Old Fortress at night

Honestly, this ended up being the perfect way to end the evening in Corfu Town.

No big activity, no schedule — just sitting by the water at night after a long summer day.
