Malta quickly became one of my favorite destinations for travel photography.

Before visiting, I expected beautiful beaches and historic cities, but I did not expect to find so many photogenic locations within such a small area. During a few days on the islands, I photographed everything from historic gardens and waterfront promenades to dramatic cliffs, turquoise lagoons, and panoramic viewpoints.

What I liked most was how peaceful the area felt compared to some of Valletta’s busier streets. It was easy to slow down, enjoy the views, and take photos without feeling rushed.

St. Julian’s Bay

The combination of sea views, historic architecture, and the waterfront setting creates a very different atmosphere compared to Valletta. One of my favorite photos from Malta was taken here, with the bay and one of the area’s most recognizable buildings in the background.

Walking along the waterfront, there always seemed to be another interesting angle to photograph. The shoreline, the views across the bay, and the mix of traditional Maltese architecture and modern surroundings make this one of the most photogenic areas in Malta.

Sliema Coastline

I loved how simple the landscape felt. The rocky foreground and open sea create a clean background that works perfectly for travel photos and vacation outfit pictures.

One thing that surprised me most was the waves. Even though the weather felt relatively calm during our visit, large waves kept crashing against the rocks along the coastline. Watching the water break against the shore added so much movement and atmosphere to the scenery and made the area feel even more dramatic in person.

The coastline is also ideal for capturing the Mediterranean atmosphere that makes Malta such a popular travel destination.

Blue Lagoon

No list of the best photo spots in Malta would be complete without Blue Lagoon.

The water here looks almost unreal. The bright turquoise colors, rocky coastline, boats, and crystal-clear sea make Blue Lagoon one of the most famous places in Malta for photography.

One of my favorite photos from the trip was taken with a pineapple drink overlooking the lagoon. Small details like this often help capture the feeling of being on vacation better than a traditional landscape photo.

The viewpoints above the lagoon are particularly impressive because they reveal the full color of the water and the surrounding coastline.

Victoria Citadel, Gozo

Located in the center of Gozo, Victoria Citadel offers incredible views across the island while also providing countless photography opportunities inside the old walls.

One of my favorite photos here was taken while walking down the side staircase leading toward the citadel square. Most visitors stop directly in front of the church for photos, but I found that using the staircase creates a much more interesting composition. The stone walls naturally frame the scene, while the church and open square remain visible in the background.

The limestone architecture and elevated position make the entire area feel completely different from Malta’s coastal locations.

The limestone cliffs, deep blue water, and rugged coastline make the scenery feel much more dramatic than the calm beaches found elsewhere in Malta.

The viewpoint itself is one of the most photographed locations in the country, and it is easy to understand why once you see the landscape in person.

For photography, Blue Grotto combines some of the best coastal views in Malta with one of the island’s most iconic natural landmarks.
